“Have feet? Will dance”, so believes the dance revolutionist Shiamak Davar. His enthusiasm indeed rubs off on the students of his dance school Shiamak Davar's Institute of Performing Arts (SDIPA) at Somajiguda where one sees people of all ages, from kids to their grandmas, shaking a leg or two. Since 1992, SDIPA has been helping dance enthusiasts hone their skills in Indo-western dance forms, such as, hip hop, salsa and Bollywood free-styles.

Every year the Academy conducts four sessions (beginning in January, April, June and September) consisting of fifteen classes each. Timings differ from centre to centre and you can either go for weekdays or the weekend classes. All you pay is Rs 2800 per session. Each class lasts for an hour.

Only after attending the Beginners course do you become eligible for the Elementary and Intermediate levels. For those who would rather dance indoors or just want to work out, SPIDA also facilitates “Personal Training Programmes” that gets you trained right at your home by expert trainers.

Want to take up dancing as a career? Well, SPIDA does not provide professional trainings as such, but if you stand out as an exceptional student, you might as well get selected by Shiamak for his “Special Potential Batch” programme that grooms you to join SPIDA back as trainers. And who knows some day, Shiamak might even ask you to join his Shiamak Davar Dance Company!

SPIDA Summer and Winter Funk workshops are quite popular amongst students during vacations. At the end of every workshop students are given certificates and an opportunity to perform live on stage. Lately, SPIDA has also been organising workshops in housing societies like My Home Navadweepa and L&T Infocity’s Serene County.

So get set and boogie-woogie. It’s never too late.
